"Disrespecting the evidence"
March 23rd, 3:30PM, Room 1-132 Carlson School of Management
Abstract: We look to the evidence in judging what to believe. But we might also have evidence regarding evidence: evidence concerning what evidence there is "out there", evidence concerning what evidence I possess, evidence concerning the strength of my evidence, evidence concerning my abilities at assessing the evidence. The paper explores how we are to respond to evidence of this sort. In particular I consider whether one's total evidence could support a conclusion P while also supporting the conclusion that one's total evidence does not support P (as some philosophers have recently suggested).
